What Is The Community Assistance Program? (CAP)

The Community Assistance Program (CAP) in the South Knik River community, Alaska, is a state-funded initiative to provide financial support to local governments and eligible non-profit organizations. The program helps enhance services such as public safety, health and welfare, education, and infrastructure maintenance. CAP aims to improve the quality of life for residents by ensuring that essential services are accessible and well-maintained.

Anytime you have a project idea for the CAP Grant funds, please bring them to a council meeting or share them with a board member for presentation.

Examples of How We Have Used CAP Funds

  • Signage for meetings
  •  Paid for and installed 300 ft of guardrail near Mile 1
  •  Applied for and received a “Neighborhood Watch” Grant
  • Erected Mat Su Crime Stopper Signs throughout the council area - Installed security lighting
  •  Installed security cameras
  •   Annual Spring Clean-up with raffles
  • Purchased 4.5 acres of private property for the community council
  •  Completed all work associated with establishing a building on sight
  • Cleared property
  •  Purchased and delivered building
  •   Building Foundation
  •   Handicap ramp
  •  Visqueen crawl space
  •  Well, septic, drain field
  •  Pressure tank, water heater, plumbing
  •  Parking lot grading
  •  Installed and repaired a new roof on the building
  •  Upgraded building with bathroom, and kitchenette, repaired and painted interior walls
  •  Toyo stove
  •  Bought and installed fuel tank
  •  Built pavilion and graded sides Host BBQs usually twice a year, spring clean up and one in the fall
  •   Provide supplies and refreshments for community gatherings/volunteers
  •   Plow/sand parking lot for meetings
  •  Cover operational and maintenance costs
  • Installed gate
  •  Hosted Community Emergency Response Training (CERT)
  •  Presently working on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for the area
